When God Gives You a Mic Drop Moment 🎤
Have you ever had someone say something to you that was a “mic drop”? In other words, someone said something that was so powerful and crystal clear that nothing else needed to be said afterward.
Have you ever had that kind of moment with God? Tell me about it in the comments, I would love to hear how God is speaking to you!
For me, I had this really unexpected moment with God during an impromptu Bible reading last night. It was a wild moment I’m sure I will never forget! But before I tell you all about it, I want to color in a little bit of context.
At our church, we’re gearing up for our big yearly women’s weekend event. A month ago all the women were encouraged to seek God and come to the weekend with prepared and expectant hearts. Meaning we should turn to God, seek Him daily, ask Him to purify us, and repent of the things God brings to light. I have been seeking God since, preparing my mind and heart and it has been incredible how much more I’ve been hearing God speak to me.
I’ve been seeking him and asking Him to cleanse my heart and prepare my heart for whatever message He’s going to deliver, that I would hear His voice, take His message to heart, that I would live it, that it wouldn’t just be another sermon I heard, but it would cause me to live life on purpose, with His purpose.
So fast forward to this past Tuesday – our women at church had our usual women’s group. Instead of breaking out to our usual groups, we spent time collectively in worship and prayer for this upcoming event and it was beautiful! When I got home that night, I felt like the Lord said “seek me”, which I understood to mean, go sit and read the Bible, and prayerfully spend time in God’s presence.
Since I just arrived home, first I went upstairs to see my husband and kids. The kids were sleeping as they usually are, but this time my husband was in bed sleeping too. Usually he is up waiting for me. Since he was sleeping I took that as a confirmation to go and seek God. (I was going to anyway, but God made it so I could go to be in His presence right away!) I went back to our first floor and sat at our desk, opened my Bible and reread some of the verses we read that night at church.
As I was reading around the Psalms and Isaiah, I started to notice a very common theme for the verses that I was reading where God continually asks us to wait on Him. While I was reading in Isaiah, I felt like God told me to turn to chapter 64. I’ll be honest – I had no idea if there was a chapter 64! I mean I know the Psalms has over 100 chapters. I knew Isaiah has a lot of chapters too, but I didn’t know if there was 64! (There are 66 chapters in Isaiah by the way, in case you are wondering, lol.) However, in that moment I knew and believed that if it was God asking me to read chapter 64 then chapter 64 would be there.
At the moment I heard Him say go to chapter 64, I didn’t go to it right away…I was looking for a very specific verse, and I was trying to read all of Isaiah to try to find it. Even though I passed it, I didn’t find it, and I finally I got to chapter 64. I realized God was telling me the verse I was looking for wasn’t as important as doing what He said. And boy am I thankful for His patience with me!
When I got to chapter 64 though, I got excited because there was a chapter 64! And I knew God asked me to turn to it. I was anticipating in excitement what God wanted me to read. I start reading chapter 64 and in verse 4 I see it says “Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him”.
Are you ready for the mic drop?
Simultaneously, the very second I finished reading verse 4 THE LIGHTS SHUT OFF! Ya’ll – I was so giddy in completely darkness!! LOL I literally silently laughed (because my household was sleeping) with excitement and was in awe of God! I couldn’t make this up if I tried. It was such an incredible moment for me. I felt like God said – that’s it. That’s the message. Now go to bed. I was in awe because God is clearly telling me to wait on Him and that He acts on behalf of those who wait for Him. AND He waited for me to finally get to the verse He told me to! I read it and bam – lights off!
So – how did the lights go off in my house and I not be scared you ask? Well, recently, I had asked my husband to install an automatic timer for the light we have at our desk. I didn’t set the timer, so I really have no idea what time it goes off at night – nor did I consider that would happen. But in God’s perfect timing He gave me all the time to read what He wanted me to. I didn’t hurry to chapter 64. He knew though. He knew when the timer would go off and was just was so patient with me that He waited for me to get to chapter 64 verse 4 and He said ok – lights off!
And wouldn’t you know, the goodness of God didn’t end at that moment (I mean His goodness would never end…). When I went to bed and laid my head down, He reminded me of the words to the verse that I was trying to find – Isaiah 40:31 “but they who wait for The Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Then I had this beautiful vision of when I don’t know what to do, I can wait for God I can sit and wait for Him and He like an eagle will allow me to sit on His back and He will fly and I’ll have a new perspective, perhaps His higher heavenly perspective.
I drifted to sleep that night feeling like I just read a “fairy tale” – except this was real life! Praise God that time with Him is so beautiful and wonderful! He really knows all the intimate details and weaves them together into the perfect story! Nothing with God is ever wasted.
I really feel that even though this word is for me in due season – it is not just for me. It is for you and all of His children! All of us. One of the many messages He communicates to us through His powerful word.
Can I encourage you today? Seek God and wait for Him. He will show up!
