God and His Limitless Love

Sometimes I am given tasks to do and I feel honored to be asked to be the “one” to do the task. There are times I become so driven to get “it” done excellently I become unaware of anything or anyone else around me. I’m so focused I get tunnel vision and I fail to connect with the people around me.

Does this ever happen to you? How do you remember to connect with the people around you?

When I only focus on the tasks at hand, forgetting to take moments to connect with people or ask them to join me along the journey, the litany of things to do can become arduous and my time spent lonely.

God reminded me through a friend not to lose sight of people in the name of accomplishing a task. Even though accomplishing tasks excellently is noble, if my character fails in other areas to get the task done then I’ve fallen short. People are important. Jesus gave His life for people after all.

For example, if I’m serving at church and I’ve been given a task, but I ignore all the people in church and rush around and treat them as though I have no time for them, what impression have I left? Maybe that I don’t think they are as important as the task.

And for some time now I’ve been sensing from God to put a stronger emphasis on relationships. So I’ve started to do two simple things: 1. Be aware and engaged with the people around me and 2. when I think of someone I text or call them.

I feel so humbled by God’s grace for me. Even when I mess up He loves me and reminds me of what is truly important. Him and His people! In Matthew 22 Jesus said “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. The second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commands depend all the law and prophets.”

I’m grateful for God’s direction when I lose my way. When I focus on only tasks or when I’m being selfish and only thinking of myself or my wants and desires, I start straying from the path He’s calling me to walk. And moments with friends where I can be reminded of what God’s word says help bring me back to the path I’m meant to be walking.

How do you stay grounded in the word and keep Jesus number one and people number two?
